Wired Editor-in-Chief: 'When Is My Industry Going to Stop Lying?'

There are few things as annoying as magazine "blow-in" subscription cards and junk mail subscription offers. Surprisingly, Wired editor-in-chief Chris Anderson thinks so too, and in a recent blog post entitled "When Is My Industry Going to Stop Lying?" he goes into detail, calling out all the whoppers gracing your average subscription card and asking the obvious question:

"Is the sort of reader who responds to this kind of insultingly dumb deceit really the target audience for this magazine?"

Among the dumbest deceits:

  • All those "free" or "included" things are just the regular content that's in the mag for everyone.

  • It makes no difference if you reply by the "reply by" date.

  • There is no such thing as a "special courtesy rate."
