Carbon offsets for all! Supes take 3 week vacation (and counting) while Newsom goes into productivity overdrive - either way we're screwed. It's ...

As we enter week three of absolutely no Board of Supervisors meetings held, one bleak fact becomes terribly clear: these fuckers only worked one week in December.

Not even a rampaging tiger attack could convince them to hold a committee hearing.

The zoo may or may not be falling apart … but they are not breaking their three weeks of silence to find out.

Newsom — got to give him credit — has been working. His office has been flush with end-of-the-year press releases including one – I kid you not – about a proposed “sweetened beverage fee on big-box retailers that sell drinks sweetened by high-fructose corn syrup.”

Which begs the question: are high-fructose corn syrup drinks okay when sold by mom-and-pop stores?

The purpose of this fee is “to mitigate the impact of obesity on San Francisco’s population.”

Yeah – apparently Newsom has a “comprehensive anti-obesity initiative” called “Shape Up San Francisco.” Which confuses me because, aren’t we supposed to accept people just the way they are? I could swear I heard something about being non-judgmental. San Francisco’s so confusing.

Other initiatives out of Newsom’s office in December alone — while the Board of Supervisors is busy pleasuring whoever you need to sleep with to get on the Board of Supervisors — (Ruby Tourk?) — include a planned expansion of Healthy San Francisco; a statement that the planned expansion will go on despite a judge’s ruling against Healthy San Francisco; and the creation of a fund to buy carbon offsets for the ENTIRE CITY.

So from now on, when we throw our money away on ridiculous programs, we’ll know our government inefficiency isn’t hurting the environment — only people.

Bearing all that in mind, here’s a question to end the year on. Which annoys you more: a Board of Supervisors who won’t work, or a mayor who will?
