Open Houses: Petty Thieves Paradise

open_house_sign.jpg

It seems obvious, but if you're planning on holding an open house, it would be a good idea to make sure all your valuables are safely stowed away because apparently people will steal just about anything they can get their hands on.

Highlights from the Chronicle include: Hummel figurines ($200,000 worth stolen from an open house), police badges (could come in handy), jewelry (duh), pharmaceuticals (oh yes) key chains with house keys (for easy nighttime robbery) soap and towels (just like in a hotel) " a large, white, wool shag rug" (don't ask), "a one-of-a-kind wrought iron door handle with the head of a lion and the body of a snake," (sounds pretty cool: estimated worth? $10,000).
