Murder Most Foul: Counting San Francisco's Annual Homicides

According to the eerily up-to-date San Francisco Crime blog, we've reached the 100th murder mark for the year. Numbers 99 and 100 happened early Saturday with the murders of two men in the Mission District, at the corner of 18th and South Van Ness. Or not. According to the Examiner, the weekend double murder only brought the annual "unofficial" tally up to 96, tying 2005 for the highest rate in a decade. So which number is correct? It depends on how some of the cases are classified -- suspicious deaths are different from justifiable homicides are different from plain old cold-blooded murders. In either case more people have been murdered than last year, when there were only 85. Be careful out there. (via SFist)
