The final installment of our recap – in which we leave the computer room and report upon real life

Today: You Are There

The life of an Internet journalist is not quite as glamorous as you might think. Take Josh Wolf for example: Is spending time in prison and making liquor in the toilet just one of those things, like a trip to the moon on gossamer wings? Hell no!

And yet, from time to time, we escape from behind the keyboard and hang out with petulant politicians, homeless people, aggressive cops or mentally challenged pole dancers. Yep, this is the life for me!

Here are some of The Snitch’s top You Are There first-person tales of 2007:

Web Editor David Downs peruses charity night at the strip joint (technically this appeared on our sister blog, All Shook Down. But I’m posting it anyway).

Benjamin Wachs walks the mean (and none too mean) streets of Oakland with Barack Obama’s wet-behind-the-ears volunteers. Who says there’s no there there?

Yours truly hits the cold, wet corridors of the Castro for this year’s Halloween police state (and, yes, a girl asked me if I was dressed as Harry Potter. Not good times. Bad times).

And yet, the city redeemed itself with a joyous Dia De Los Muertos celebration.

Wachs documents Chris Daly in the act of behaving like Chris Daly.

John Geluardi drinks Gavin’s booze at the mayor’s “victory” party.

Thousands of skateboarders did not show up for "Wild in the Streets." But we did.

Well, that’s all for this year. As always, thanks for reading. All the best in ’08. Next year in Jerusalem!
