Vincent DeDomenico, 92, creator of San Francisco's most famous export -- Rice-A-Roni -- died in his sleep last Thursday at his home in Napa. Born and raised by Italian immigrants in the Mission District, DeDomenico worked in the family pasta business, eventually concocting his famous recipe for Rice-A-Roni, a mixture of rice and macaroni (duh).

An unrelenting hard worker and dreamer, at 72 DeDomenico began his second career, building and running the Napa Wine Train. On Thursday a public celebration of his life will take place at the Napa Valley Wine Train station in Napa.
