Village Voice vs. Guardian: Alt-Weekly Deathmatch!
So Editor and Publisher just ran a long 1,000-word column on how to be an Alt-Weekly in 2007, hesitantly boiling down the entire debate to the difference between VVM Chief Mike Lacey, and SF's Guardian, Bruce Brugmann.
Central conclusion: new readers want to know what to do Friday night, vs. the old ones wanting 6,000-word think pieces on, say, bees [ahem, bees].
Our contention: they want both. It's what the Google Analytics says:
Think piece right next to glory hole.
Hey, there is a lot of shit to do on any given Saturday night; now more than ever. And what are we all going to talk about till dawn, if not, 'what's happening to all the goddam bees, man!?' -d2
