SF Weekly on Chronicle Layoffs: Lazarus Has His Own Ad -- in the LATimes
... "it's perhaps no great surprise that star business columnist David Lazarus would bail ..."By Ron Russell
Considering the Chronicle's shaky fortunes of late, it's perhaps no great surprise that star business columnist David Lazarus would bail for the Los Angeles Times.
But the way the impending move was disclosed was a bit unorthodox.
Lazarus' mug turned up yesterday in a house ad at Latimes.com: "The playing field isn't always level. Business columnist David Lazarus will make sure consumers get a fair shake. Starting in August."
A memo from Times Business editor Davan Maharaj, as posted by blogger Kevin Roderick at LA Observed, notes that Lazarus' wife, Ikuko, is a career counselor as well as free-lance journalist "who no doubt advised him to make the right choice."
He's scheduled to move south at the end of the month.
