Bigger Prisons = Profits for Author at Modern Times Tonight
Prisons. I for one, would like to see more. Something like one out every 60 males in America is in jail every year, but I went to public school. I'd say one out of 15 males are criminals. Ruth Wilson Gilmore, author of Golden Gulag: Prisons, Surplus, Crisis, and Opposition in Globalizing California explores California’s 450 percent increase in incarcerated persons in the last three decades or so, and she also does that traditional muckraker dance: She follows the money to show who has a stake in building even more prison beds. Our Golden State is still spending more money on lockups than on education, and the writer’s no fan of that, either.
