Boxing Bootcamp Day 8 (thousand) -- Nutrition Expert Edition
Did you see that? Beer destroys bodies!
Personal health observations aside, since it doesn't seem like anyone's going to throw me a hundred dollars to get an expert nutritionist's opinion on what a mid-sized, kinda over weight white dude should be eating in San Francisco, the plan for today is to get a nutritionist on the phone to speak with me about what I should be eating. But, alas, that's in stall mode -- I called the first fifteen who showed up in a Google search, and everyone seems to be in kickboxing class, so no go, yet. Waiting for calls back. More updates as the day goes on.
For what it's worth, my guess would be that the average nutritionist's instructions would be:
--Do not smoke
--Do not drink ten beers every night.
--Do not drop anything like it's hot.
--Drink lots of water.
In the mean time, I'll leave you with, in order, a quote from one of my bootcamp classmates, and a description of today's workout. Eh-hem:
1) "I don't wanna get into a fight. When you get into a fight, you're pretty much guaranteed to get hurt. I don't wanna get hurt. So fuck that. I'm here to get laid more often."
2) Long. Uphill.

Update: Smoking, drinking = of course, very bad.
Top 5 best and Worst Things to Eat, with Cindy Hon, from APEX Wellness:
Worst:
-Enriched bread and flour.
-Sugar (use it moderately if you have to)
-Fried food
-Alcohol
-Children
Best:
"It's not that simple," she says. Seventy percent of everything you eat (your "total caloric intake") should be carbs (bread, oatmeal, leafy green vegetables -- broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers). Twenty-five percent should be protein (egg whites, lean meats, tuna salmon). The rest should be fat (but only olive oil or canola oil, cheese, nuts, almonds.
How many calories should you eat total? First, calculate your BMR -- the number of calories, based on your height, weight, and age, that you would burn if you laid your lazy ass in bed all day). From there, using the the Harris Benedict Equation, you can calculate how many calories you should consume based on your activity level.
According to Cindy (and the websites linked above), I should eat 2494.7 calories per day (70 percent, 25 percent, 5 percent), spaced out in 5 meals, making sure to eat the last meal about 3 hours before I go to bed -- begin eating at 8am, then eat every 2 hours or so until 6, or sometime shortly after that, then stop. Whether or not that's feasible? Who knows. I certainly do not. Good to know, though.
