Here's some good news for fans of dance music and high quality sound systems. Though 222 Hyde recently closed, its Turbosound rig will find a new home at Potrero Hill art-oriented nightclub Project One. Owner Brooke Waterhouse posted the news on her Facebook page yesterday, and the system is now fully installed and ready for an introductory party sometime this weekend (we imagine details will be posted on the venue's website). It's still a tough call, but this week sure feels like the end of a significant chapter in San Francisco nightlife history. The catalyst is, of course, the decommissioning of Mighty's epic RLA soundsystem. But while it might be a sad note for some, remember that these kinds of ends usually signal new beginnings. St. Patrick's Day looms, but that doesn't mean you need to put on green clothing to party this weekend. In fact, the draw of South by Southwest in Austin. means that an unusually high number of big touring acts will be stopping in the City by the Bay. Somewhat oddly, this week the focus is on the slick and heavily medicated sound of contemporary tech-house. The focal point being Friday's extended-length, headlining set by Seth Troxler, one of the most respected figures in this new movement. But that's not all, and as usual we've got you covered. Beatport sold out for $50 million, 222 Hyde is shutting down, and Baauer's "Harlem Shake" somehow topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the second week in a row. Is there a connection between any of those things? Not really, but it helps to illustrate the chaotic winds of change that seem to be blowing as we enter into the thick of 2013. However, one thing that you can count on is that San Francisco is a city with great parties every week. As usual we have you covered, but what's more, we now have you partygoers covered in print as well. If you want to get a jump on things, pick up a copy of SF Weekly from your neighborhood newsrack, and you'll have the party preview one full day before it goes online.
