The Lowbrow Art Sale: Anne Faith Nicholls, Ana Bagayan & Paul Lewin

"Custom Collectors Box" by Anne Faith Nicholls

annefaithnichols_box.jpg

Anne Faith Nichols has brought back her customizable limited edition collectors boxes. Each box is made of wood and brass and is handpainted by the artist. You choose the style of the box you want, and can even have a name added to it. Each box is then filled with three limited edition mini-prints. The last time she did this they sold out pretty quick, its a killer deal so I can imagine this set will sell out fast as well. Get the Set Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Natalia Fabia, Dan Quintana & Scott Campbell

"Pool Party" by Natalia Fabia

pool-party_natalia.jpg
Natalia just had a solo show at the Corey Helford Gallery called "Hooker DreamEscape," which featured some very amazing paintings. The gallery rarely releases prints, but has decided to release two based on popular works from this show. The main print, "Pool Party," is 22" x 30", signed and numbered on Arches Infinity Fine Art Paper in an edition of 50. Get the Print Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: James Jean, Jeremy Fish & Edwin Ushiro

"Swan" by James Jean

swan_jamesjean.JPG
One of the most exciting paintings at James Jean's first solo show at the Jonathan Levin gallery was the "Swan." It was not only beautiful to look at, but was also one of the largest at 50" x 88" and made up of four panels. A few pieces from that show have been made into prints and now it's the swan's turn, (corny, I know). Each print is 25" x 44" -- archival pigment ink on hot press fine art paper -- signed and numbered in an edition of 50. They will be released at SURU this Friday, but with an edition that small for such an amazing piece, I wouldn't wait long. Contact the gallery directly to pre-order one. Get the Print Here,

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Mars-1, Nouar & Kelly Thompson

"The Nature of Time" by Mars-1

thenatureoftime_mars1.jpg

Mars-1's latest show opened last weekend at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. There is also a new giclee print available, but it doesn't look be based on of the paintings for the show. The gallery has others available from Mars-1 but they are lithographs. The new print in question is a giclee print on watercolor paper, 26" x 24" signed and numbered in and edition of 50. The Lowbrow Art Sale: Movers and Shakers, Natalia Fabia & Eric Fortune

"Movers & Shakers" Limited Edition Box Set

moviersandshakers_povevolving.JPG

The POVEvolving Gallery in Los Angeles just opened a group show titled "Movers & Shakers," which is choc-ful of amazing artists. For the occasion, the gallery is releasing a Limited Edition Box Set of what looks like 13 prints, featuring Naoto Hattori, Glenn Barr, Bob Dob, Andy Kehoe, Ana Bagayan, Damon Soule, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Brian Despain, Cathie Bleck, Mia, Lola and Yosuke Ueno. None of the prints are larger than 8.5x11 and the set is limited to 50. Check out the preview of this set over here. I have to say, this is one of the most impressive box sets I have seen so far. The Lowbrow Art Sale: Mia, Amy Sol, and Brandt Peters

"Anatomy of a Somnambulist" by Mia

anatomy_mia.jpg
An artist out of Los Angeles, Mia's work is inspired by animation, silent cinema, and world cultures. This particular print is based on a painting she had at the "Illuminate" show at the Corey Helford Gallery. The print, which is 16x20, signed, and numbered in an edition of 25, is released today by Gallery 1988 at noon. To get one, call 409-1376 or e-mail  gallery1988sf@gmail.com.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: James Jean, Caia Koopman & Alex Pardee

"Toy Maker" by James Jean

toymaker_jamesjean.jpg
The first solo show of James Jean's art is currently underway at the Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York. His work is stunning, and from the looks of it the show is pretty much sold out. He does have few prints from said exhibit over on his site, and the Levine Gallery has released prints from two of the larger pieces in the show. The print featured here is 22 x 42 1/2 inches on photo rag paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 50. The original was 41x90, so the print is only half the size but you still get to enjoy all the detail this works holds. Get the Print Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: David Choe, Josh Keyes & Matt Dangler

"City Girl" by David Choe

citygirl_davidchoe.jpg

The Alternative Cafe in Monterey is having a show curated by Outer Edge Studio. The show features prints that have long sold out, so if you missed them the first time around, now is your second chance. There are prints by Banksy, Shawn Barber, Shepard Fairey and David Choe. This print from David is in a limited edition of 150. It looks like the gallery has two, one framed, one not.  Get the Prints Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Mark Ryden, Lola & Nathan Ota

"Fur Girl" by Mark Ryden

ryden_furposter.jpg
Mark Ryden has a solo show coming up at the Tomio Koyama Gallery in Tokyo, and one of the pieces from the show has been made into a limited-edition lithograph. The print comes from Porterhouse Editions and goes on sale today, January 20. I'm sure people will go crazy over this one, so if you plan on grabbing a Ryden print, do it fast. The lithograph will be on heavyweight paper, 33″ x 23 1/8″, signed and numbered in an edition of 500. It is embossed with the Porterhouse seal and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Krista Huot, Alex Pardee & Ben Tour

"Snowfall Over Poppies" by Krista Huot
snowfalloverpoppies_kristahuot.jpg Krista Huot made one of my favorite pieces at the most recent Crazy 4 Cult show, and well, one of the best Wizard of Oz-inspired works I have seen yet. It is now available in print form from Gallery 1988. The print is 16" x 20", signed and numbered in an edition of 50. There will also be 15 of the prints with hand-embellished poppies going for $150 while the standard is $100 each. You can either contact the gallery at (415) 409-1376 / gallery1988sf@gmail.com, or Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Nathan Spoor, Joey Potts & David Choe

"The Remembering Tree" by Nathan Spoor

NS_RememTree_hires.jpgIt's been far too long since I have checked to see any new prints from this artist, and there are two since the last time I featured Nathan. I really liked the idea of some elaborate treehouse, with a train and everything. The print is signed and numbered, in an edition of only 25. The print is 22" x 17" with an image area of 17" x 13". Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Shepard Fairey, David Stoupakis & Catherine Brooks

"George Orwell 1984 Print Set" by Shepard Fairey

1984_shepardfairey.jpgShepard was commissioned by Penguin Books to give his take on two Orwell Classics, 1984 and Animal Farm. The book set was sold in the UK along with a print set, and that print set is now here in the US and will be available for purchase on the Obey Giant site this Wednesday. They are both offset prints, 17" x 24" signed and numbered in an edition of 200. Limit one per household. Get it here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Brian M. Viveros, Alex Pardee & Mari Inukai

"Evillast" by Brian M. Viveros

EvilLast_viveros.jpgBrian has just recently released a new print on his online shop. This piece is based on one of his more popular paintings, "EvilLast." The print is 18" x 24" and is signed and numbered in an edition of 69. With each purchase of a print, you also get a 3.5" x 4" die-cut sticker of the image and a postcard. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Shawn Barber, Ben Tour & Joe Vaux

"Portrait of the artist Paul Booth" by Shawn Barber

barber_booth.jpgNo more than a few days ago, Bay Area artist Shawn Barber unveiled new works in the "Anathema" two person show at the Last Rites Gallery in New York. The pieces in that show are Shawn's first collection of erotic paintings. Previously, we saw Shawn working on his tattooed portrait series, and for those of us who were itching to take some of it home, he has some new prints and a book, "Forever and Ever." The print featured above is exclusive to Last Rites, and happens to be of Paul Booth, tattoo artist, painter and owner of the gallery. The print is a signed and numbered giclee on canvas print, in an edition of 75. There is also a really great print of a painting Shawn did of Last Rites Director Genevive Zacconi. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Chet Zar, Sylvia Ji & Jeremy Fish

"Clown of Doom" by Chet Zar clown_of_doom_chetzar.jpgLast month, the Corey Helford Gallery had a group show dedicated to Clowns, as creepy as they may be to some people. One of my favorite works from the show was the piece this print was made from. I was hoping Chet was planning on turning his Clown of Doom into a print and as luck would have it, he did. This is a special collectors edition print, so the size is bigger than his other prints. It's is 17" x 22" on velvet art paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 100. The print isn't framed, but I think it would be a good idea to get a frame that looked as good as the one Chet used. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Audrey Kawasaki, Luke Chueh & Amanda Visell

"Two Sisters" by Audrey Kawasaki

twosisfly.jpg
For a while now it has been extremely hard for fans to get a hold of a print by Audrey. So in the last few weeks she had a poll, and has decided to release a "timed" print this Friday. There will be two versions of this print, a 26" x 30" editon that comes framed and is limited to 75. Then a 14" x 18" version that will be sold from 12-1pm, which means if you order the print at that time you are pretty much guaranteed to get it. So if you've been waiting for a print of hers, now itsthe time to do it. Watch the "Shop" area of her website this coming December 5th at noon. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Calma, Jonathan Viner & Anne Faith Nichols

"Vox Clammantis in Deserto" by Calma

Vox_clammantis_72dpi1.jpg

Stephan Doitschinoff, otherwise known as "Calma," is a Brazilian street artist who is currently having a solo show at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. The name of this piece roughly translates into "Voice Calling into the Desert," and is a silkscreen print in a signed and numbered edition of 300. You have the opportunity to get the print framed or unframed. I like how this screenprint kind of has the feel of a block printing. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Skot Olsen, Scott Saw & Jason Rudolphpena

"The Devil's Knee" by Skot Olsen
the_devils_knee.jpg

The last time I featured a print by Skot it was after a fire at the Harold Golen Gallery that pretty much destroyed his whole show. But upon revisiting his website, I saw that he has some new work, and some new prints up. No fire is topping this guy. Of his featured prints, the one shown here is the one I dig the most. I love the way the man paints, and the stylized figures and that Boss Hog-looking outfit the Devil is wearing just floor me. The print is limited to 50, signed and numbered and is 19" x 24". Derek Hess Giving Away Free Obama Poster with Purchase of His New Book

ObamaHess.JPGArtist Derek Hess is best known for his striking, physical cover art for numerous punk and metal albums, but lately he's started infusing politics into his pictures. His new book, Please God Save Us, features lots of disturbing drawings, paintings, and collages that lambaste right-wing hypocrisy; in case you don't get the point from the artwork alone, writer/politician/"community organizer" Kent Smith adds essays that correspond with the art's themes of religion, war, environmental exploitation, and so on. Trust me, it's rad (i.e., "radical" in all meanings of the word). As if that weren't enough, Hess is also giving away copies of his limited edition Obama poster (as seen here) with every copy of Please God Save Us sold. That is, until the supply runs out. Visit Hess' website for info. — J. Graham

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Joe Sorren, Alex Pardee & Mike Giant

Joe Sorren "Astraea"
2008astraeaprint.jpg
For the rest of the week, Joe Sorren is having a sale at his online shop. This is one of those sales that is way too good to be true. Buy any one of his prints, and get another one for free. Once you head over and see the quality and price of his work, it will be quite clear how much of a great deal this is.

The piece shown here really caught my eye: the layout and feel kind of reminds me of "Venus of Urbino" by Titian. The print is 24" x 24" signed and numbered in an edition of 50.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Greg "Craola" Simkins, Ron English & Ken Garduno

"Knight Watch" by Greg Craola Simkins
knightwatch_craola.jpg
If there was one artist that I wish I had bought some work from early on, it's Craola. Not only because I am a huge fan of his work, but it's also because his art now sells out in minutes and is far too much for this college boy to afford. Luckily, he often has prints of his work and they are always top notch. This new one looks to be the best so far. It's from a painting that will be in his upcoming solo show at the Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles. The print is a giclee on stretched canvas, limited to 30 and is a massive 24" x 36". The print will be released at the show this November 6th, or you can call (323) 937-7088 to get it that day. Good luck! Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Michael Hussar, Leslie Ditto & Mercedes Helnwein

"Cherry Pie" by Michael Hussar
cherrypie_hussar.jpg
BirdBath Publishing has just released a new print by Michael Hussar that is ready for pre-order. The print, titled “Cherry Pie," is 12″x 15″and signed and numbered in an edition of 88. It also comes with a certificate of authenticity. The release date for this one is in late November. So if you're a big fan of Michael’s work, it could be a good chance to score something that is sure to sell out very quickly. I love the color used in this piece as well as the beautiful collar (similar to the one on his “Morphine” painting). It looks like a beautiful companion piece to those who might be lucky enough to own a “Daddy’s Girl” print, which still seems to pop up from time to time, commanding huge prices. Don't miss out on this one. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Amy Sol, Vincent Castiglia & Apricot Mantle

Amy Sol "Flying Fish"
flying_fish.jpg
I can't really remember the last time Amy released a print, but this weekend you will have the opportunity to grab one. This piece is 17" x 20", signed and numbered with an embossed watermark in an edition of 50; it comes on the always-beautiful hahnemühle paper. He prints sell out quite fast, so if you're interested, mark your schedule: it goes on sale this Saturday at 6pm. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Tim Biskup, Joe Ledbetter & Scott Campbell

Tim Biskup "Asylum #4"
Asylum-4_72dpi.jpg
Tim has an upcoming exhibition at the Addict Gallerie in Paris. I'm not sure if there will be any new prints from this show, but there is one available from an exhibit he had this past year at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. The piece on display at the Levine had the same amazing colors that Tim is known for, but this time he used a lot more geometric shapes to define the figures and subjects in each one of the paintings. The print from said show is a whopper, not only in image size (24" x 26"), but the specs as well. It is a 55+ color serigraph on archival paper. That is intense! It isn't often that you get screen prints that are that complex. The print is signed and numbered in an edition of 100, with only 50 available from the gallery. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Munk One, Brandi Milne, Erik Otto

Munk One, "Obama"
obama_munkone.jpg
I know everyone is trying hard to make those dollars last, so I thought I would put together an article that focused on the more affordable prints out there.

This one is from Upper Playground, in a long list of collaborations where artists make Obama-inspired works. Many of them, such as this one from Munk One, are quite remarkable. It doesn't say how many are left, but some of the other posters sold out pretty quick. There's a host of Obama pieces at this store, so while you're there, check 'em all out. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: John Brophy, James Jean & Chris Peters

John Brophy "Madonna and Horsefly"
madonnaandhorsefly_johnbrophy.jpg
Roq La Rue Gallery has a new print from Washington-based artist John Brophy. The piece is on heavy watercolor stock, 10 3/4″x 13 1/4″with a paper size of 13 1/4″x 15 3/4″. It is signed and numbered in an edition of only 10. I absolutely love John’s work, and I hope to be able to see at least one of his paintings in person one day. I love how this particular work looks like an underpainting -- it glows and has this really dynamic quality to it. I don’t think this print will last long at all. As I write this there are only 8 prints left.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Kent Williams, Naoto Hattori & Nicoletta Ceccoli

Kent Williams, "Pilot"
pilot_kentwilliams.jpg
Its been far too long since I have shown a print from this stellar artist. I'm not sure I can even find words to describe just how amazing he is. So allow my feeble writing to at least introduce you to this print, which runs 17" x 22" on cotton rag paper in an edition of 20. This print is made with Ultrachrome inks, the same that James Jean uses so I know the quality is top notch. There's not much I can say about this piece other than how perfect it seems to be in terms of layout, expression and texture. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Shepard Fairey, Lesley Reppeteaux & Mari Inukai

Shepard Fairey "Billboard Eye"
gal_artist_78_3026_Billboard_Eye_copy.jpg
One of the most recognizable names in the current art scene, Shepard Fairey currently has a solo show at the White Walls Gallery. The show is massive and features a lot of really killer work (some of which you can see here). This is one of the few prints that's available. If you're looking for others, ebay is probably your best bet. This one's very similar to the one he submitted for the "Crazy 4 Cult 2" Show. Must be some of the same stencils. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Craola, Jonathan Viner & Yuta Onoda

Greg Craola Simkins "It Wanders"
It-Wanders_001.jpg
It's time for another amazing show featuring the work of the artist known as "Craola." This time, said exhibit (which features some amazing pieces) is at the fairly new Joshua Liner Gallery. Those who want to take home a piece of Craola can pick up this new print, a 25" x 25" hand-signed giclee on canvas. That's a great size for a print from this artist, and I don't think it will last long. Head on over and pick one up. Get It Here.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: Alex Garcia, Glenn Barr & Whitney Lenox

Alex Garcia "Straight Through Your Heart"
straight_alexgarcia.jpg
An artist out of Los Angeles, Alex Garcia has been a favorite of mine for quite some time now. He also tattoos on a limited basis, and in both areas he is very skilled. Garcia is one of those artists whose work I'm itching to see in person, as the feel and color in his pieces are amazing. This print is from Black Market Art Company; each print is one canvas, and you get a choice of size. The print also comes stretched onto wood for you, so all you have to do is put it on your wall.
