Waters Joins Winter Residency Madness in S.F. With a Run of February Shows
Wintertime is residency time here in San Francisco's clubland. Look around and your small rooms are filling up their calendars with local groups playing weekly shows for cheap. This month, you can see Mark Matos and friends do their Americalia thing Mondays at Elbo Room, or head to Amnesia on Tuesdays for Loving Cup's residency series with Farallons and other outfits. We've just heard news of another residency we're really excited about: Next month, the tremendous and under-heralded S.F. band Waters will be playing every Monday night with a full complement of musicians at Brick and Mortar Music Hall.
Thumbs up to the best city in the world
Why should you care? Well, Waters doesn't play around here that often, and certainly not with a full live band, and certainly not once every week for $6. A solo project of former Port O'Brien member Van Pierzalowski, Waters put out its debut record in 2011, and we duly listed it as one of the finest local rock albums of the year. Melodic, aggressive, introspective, and terribly catchy, there was really no resisting it.
Pierzalowski's been back in the studio working on a second LP ... in L.A. Thankfully, his S.F. affections remain strong, and the residency will include a full-band version of Waters, plus support from other worthy locals like Social Studies and the Tambo Rays. You can catch Waters at Brick and Mortar on Feb. 3, Feb. 10, Feb. 17, and Feb. 24. All hail the wintertime residency.
