Kraftwerk To Play First Bay Area Show in 10 Years
Good news, robots: Kraftwerk, the pioneering German electronic outfit and original android-human music band, is playing its first show in the Bay Area in 10 years. This is, ahem, pretty rare and special. "The Kraftwerk live experience is a perfectly synchronised audio-visual spectacle complete with pristine digital sound and 3-D projections," chirps a show announcement. "It is a pure electronic art-rave that showcases Kraftwerk's musical and technical innovation."
They are showroom dummies.
"Art-rave," eh? Yes, that is from a press release, but this is Kraftwerk we're talking about -- the Germans who, from about 1971 to 1981, released a string of minimal electronic pop albums that influenced hip-hop, electronica, rock, and much music that came after. And robots, of course, are notoriously indefatigable -- as clips from last year's New York performances illustrate.
Kraftwerk performs Sunday, March 23, at the Fox Oakland. Tickets go on presale at 10 a.m. this Thursday, Dec. 5 (password: "kraftwerk") and hit the general public at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6. You can get them here or here.
