Fisticuffs! 5 Musicians Who've Assaulted Audience Members
|Maybe don't punch Henry Rollins, and he won't punch back?|
1. A$AP Rocky
Now this one only happened a few days ago in Sydney, Australia. There's A$AP Rocky, in the middle of what looks like hell, being surrounded on all sides by fans and signing things. Then some annoying bint decides to aggressively tap him on the head a couple of times to get his attention, before making kissy faces at him. If we were A$AP Rocky, we'd have been mighty irritated by the self-entitled nature of this fan as well. Still -- an obscene hand gesture that didn't involve physical contact would probably have been a more appropriate response.
2. Henry Rollins
Anyone who has ever read Get In The Van -- Henry Rollins' incredible book about life on the road with Black Flag -- will tell you that back in the 1980s, poor ol' Henry was driven almost mad by harsh touring conditions, dire poverty, and the idiotic behavior of audience members submerged in a very violent hardcore scene. Rollins was just a different animal back then, unsure of quite how to channel his rage. Writing books and talking to people about politics has turned Henry into a pussycat now, as we all know. We still, however, wouldn't ever go out of our way to provoke him the way that the kid in this video does. Dumb move, kiddo. Dumb move.
3. Amy Winehouse
Amy Winehouse was a rebel -- an opinionated young woman and a girl who could hold her own, even on the roughest fringes of London. So it doesn't matter how fabulous her hair got, or how fancy her dress was for this Glastonbury 2008 performance: she was still a scrapper. We don't know what this guy did to deserve both an elbow and a fist to the face (rumors suggested he had groped one of her breasts), but the lesson here was clear: don't mess with the Winehouse -- she ain't as dainty as she looks.
4. Axl Rose
In 1991, douche king Axl Rose got upset when an audience member tried to take photos at a St. Louis show, demanded that security "Get that guy and take that," and then decided, after a couple of seconds, that he'd just belly flop into the audience and "take that" himself. After smacking a few people in the crowd, including security guards, Axl refused to play any more and a riot erupted. Now that, ladies and gents, is a fuckin' diva.
5. Ben Weasel
If the entire punk rock community wasn't already convinced that Ben Weasel was a terrible fucking human being (Ben is, among other things, a well-documented transgender-phobe), Screeching Weasel's performance at 2011's SXSW really drove the point home. There, he punched not one, but two women -- the second of whom was merely trying to get him to stop viciously attacking the first one. His entire band quit immediately afterwards, but Weasel remains un-remorseful and still performing. Because he really is that much of a dick.
