Trade Winter-Themed Cassettes With the S.F. Mixtape Society This Weekend

Categories: Only in SF

We are now three years into the loud history of the S.F Mixtape Society, a quarterly gathering where cassette aficionados trade tapes, sip drinks, and give each other awards for doing things that people who like mixtapes enjoy. The concept is simple: You bring a mixtape to give, and you leave with one that someone else made, all the while drinking and discussing and generally having a good time.

The society's last gathering of the year is this Sunday at the Make Out Room, from 4 to 6 p.m. It's free, and you don't have to bring a mixtape to come, but you should anyway, because you can't get a mixtape unless you do. The theme for this week's mixes? "Snow Daze," which should be fairly easy to find inspiration for, considering we're expected to be living under a fount of chilly precipitation for, oh, about the next four days.

Along with getting cool mixtapes, you can win awards for packaging and general awesomeness. But you have to submit your mix early (via the website) to qualify for the Judge's Choice award.

Here's hoping you've still got that dual-deck jambox, 'cause making mixtapes sounds like a perfect rainy-weekend activity to us.
