Hear This: Maus Haus' Slow-Rumbling "Hey Jean"
Dark-hued S.F. electro-rockers Maus Haus are back with Light Noise, a brand-new record on brand-new local indie-electronic imprint Lavis Habits. And today we're premiering the song "Hey Jean," a slow-boil of monolithic bass, streaking guitar lines, and Maus Haus' eerie multitracked vocals. Oh, and tambourine. Tambourine is key.

The song begins with a gut-punch of dread, and then rises with a long, swooping guitar lead that reminds us of something Ennio Morricone would've written. To our ears, this sounds a bit clearer and more accessible than some of the band's older work -- and while we loved Maus Haus songs like "Skyward Housing," that's not a bad thing. Long a part of the local scene, Maus Haus is just coming off a big U.S. tour and a headlining show at the Rickshaw Stop last Saturday. Light Noise is out now -- with some awesome cover art, we must say -- and you can grab a free download of "Hey Jean" below.
