Watch: Zion I Travel Full Circle in 'Human Being'

In the video for "Human Being," the criminally catchy lead single off of Zion I's new ShadowBoxing album (which dropped October 2), MC Zumbi and producer AmpLive kick it on a stoop and then throw a warehouse party. For those who have followed the Oakland duo since its inception and acceptance in the party scene more than a dozen years ago, it's a reassuring vision of a group doing what it does best.

But the latest album from the duo (their ninth overall) has a rougher feel than past efforts, eschewing the often eclectic live instrumentation for edgy beats from producers such as Traxamillion, Timeline, and Minnesota. The title serves as a reflective theme for a collection of songs meant to capture the struggle with one's self. As introspective as that sounds, the group still maintains an ability to transcend the individual and touch the collective.

Zion I performs live at Mezzanine beginning at 8:30 p.m. tonight (October 5) with support from Minnesota and DJ Vinroc. Admission is $20.
