What the Hell Is Too $hort Doing on VH1's Couples Therapy?
Legendary Oakland mack Too $hort has found himself in a very unlikely place: on the cast for the second season of VH1 reality show Couples Therapy 2, which premieres on Oct. 3. The pimp-tight rapper, whose real name is Todd Shaw, appears with Monica Payne, a music manager and former recording artist who's been described as his on-again, off-again love for some 15 years.
VH1 Couples Therapy Season 2 premieres on October 3.
The new "supertrailer" for the series seems to indicate that all of the trashiest moments come courtesy of creepy fifty-something actor Doug Hutchison and his teenaged wife Courtney Stodden. Their soundbites ("I call him Dad instead of Doug") make us want to take a long Silkwood shower. The life-or-death moments come via Jodeci singer JoJo Hailey and his wife, as they're told his excessive drinking may give him two more years of life, tops.
Too $hort and Payne, who haven't been a public couple, look like one of the most well-adjusted pairs in the program. Their fleeting moments in the supertrailer are free from outbursts or craziness. They mostly seem like they're confused as to why they are there, but start growing closer together as part of the project.
The supertrailer also makes it look like $hort gets married on the program, because they show him saying, "I shoulda brought a ring or something," and then cut to shots of a wedding where the faces of the bride and groom are obscured from view. We're gonna go out on a limb and predict that he isn't the one to tie the knot, though -- obviously, he's already married to the game.
Dr. Jenn Berman has a tremendous track record on Couples Therapy: last season, each of the five participating couples ended up splitting up for good. Hopefully, the outcome is a bit more unifying this season.
