The Top 6 New Green Day Songs, and How to Remember Them
2. "Kill the DJ": The disco one
And speaking of early-2000s indie rock bands, Franz Ferdinand will surely be requesting some royalties for this one, Billie. If that glassy guitar tone and modish disco beat weren't familiar enough, the song is a straight-up call to murder, strongly recalling the gloomy vibes of the Scottish disco punks. We loved them, so we can't help but dig the Green Day version.
1. Nuclear Family: The one that could only be from Green Day
The first song on ¡Uno! is also the best new song the band has released so far. It has all the makings of a Green Day's classic: oooh--ooh background vocals, a stop-start riff, a hugely hooky-melody from Billie Joe, and an upbeat pace. Most of the rest of these new songs see the band doing a decent-to-good job of sounding like other people, but "Nuclear Family" confirms that Green Day is still best at sounding like itself.
