Live Review, 9/22/12: Six Organs of Admittance Pummels and Soothes at Bottom of the Hill
One of Chasny's deftest hat tricks as Six Organs has been to create an almost indulgently diverse sonic world that all seems unified enough to fit under one handle. He didn't shy away from any of it here, offering meditative drones butted up against ear-shredding psych and plaintive folk in equal measure. The result was a hugely dynamic show that persistently defied expectations. Here's hoping this native son comes back again, and soon. Don't be a stranger, Ben.
Critic's Notebook
Overheard 1: "I have SoCal in my blood. That's why any, like, sub-60s weather chills my bones."
In attendance: A couple hundred visually obvious patrons of Six Organs' music, plus four people who Googled "live music San Francisco."
Overheard 2: [In response to her own statement]: "I guess that's what the whisky's for."
