Kreayshawn's Somethin 'Bout Kreay Sells Fewer Than 4,000 Copies in First Week
Ouch. Global Grind reports that the first-week sales of Kreayshawn's debut album Somethin 'Bout Kreay weren't too spiffy. Not too spiffy at all: Just 3,900 copies, according to SoundScan. However, that was good enough to land the album at number 103 on the Billboard 200. Positive spin, positive spin.![]()
The poor showing isn't the biggest surprise around these parts, not for an album that SF Weekly music editor Ian Port calls "an album of nonsensical brags muttered halfheartedly ad nauseam over amplified flatulence." (We think he was being kind.)

The album was released about 18 months after Kreay was riding the top of the viral video wave with her "Gucci Gucci" clip, which has now garnered more than 38 million views. And that huge delay is as much of a problem as the fact that this isn't a particularly strong collection of songs. The combination is deadly. Certainly it's not what Columbia Records had in mind when issuing a rumored million-dollar contract last summer.
Even when music critics at Spin, Pitchfork, and elsewhere have given her the equivalent of an F for this album, we're not ready to write Kreayshawn off as a creative talent entirely. Her visual instincts suggest that directing videos and making films might be a solid direction for her to pursue if she can keep her hustler's mentality intact through a time when the potshots are flying.
