The Fresh & Onlys' "Presence of Mind" Video Is Like a Sci-Fi Muni Nightmare

And you think Muni is fucked up...
This could only have come from a band familiar with S.F. Muni: There's a cute old man driving a bus. There's a young woman with huge bite marks on her neck. There's an older woman with a mysterious, and eventually adorable, bundle. There's a man puking his bloody insides out before coming aboard. Then there's a Twilight Zone-like journey through time and space inside the shell of a humble public transport.

Oh, and one of them gets stabbed to death.

This, friends, is the Dawn Carol Garcia-directed video for "Presence of Mind," the new single from S.F. gloom-pop/horror-camp/just-write-good-songs-and-play-them-loud rock band the Fresh & Onlys, and we urge you to watch it. It's weird and funny and surprising and, in the end, humane. And "Presence of Mind" is a great, crisp pop song off of Long Slow Dance, the band's excellent new album, which comes out Tuesday, Sept. 4. Check out the video and a preview of an upcoming documentary on the album below.

You can stream all of Long Slow Dance on Hype Machine, and you can catch the Fresh & Onlys live in S.F. next Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Independent. Pick up SF Weekly next week for a longer feature on the band and their new album.
