Outside Lands 2012 Will Be Completely Sold Out By This Weekend

Update: As of Saturday afternoon, Aug. 4, this year's festival is completely sold out of tickets.

Original post: Hope you've gotten tickets if you wanted 'em, because the Outside Lands music festival is expected to completely sell out this week, according to organizers.

By "sold out" we mean totally -- regular passes, single-day tickets, VIP tickets, everything. It's not clear when the very last ticket will go, but Allen Scott, the head of Outside Lands promoter Another Planet Entertainment, says he expects it to be sometime this Saturday or Sunday.

Regular single-day tickets for Saturday and Sunday are already gone. Three-day passes and single-day tickets for Friday are still available, as are VIP tickets for all three days.

The festival ran out of tickets last year at the door, but Scott says this is the first time the five-year-old festival has sold out in advance.

"It's been a gradual increase," he says. "Last year was certainly a watershed year for the festival in that it was the first year we sold out all three days. It's another step forward this year selling a week out."

Capacity at this year's festival is larger than previous years, too, thanks to its moving partially into Golden Gate Park's Lindley Meadow, just north of Speedway Meadow, which serves as the festival's center. Instead of 60,000 people a day, Outside Lands 2012 will be able to host 65,000, Scott says.

If you don't get at ticket through proper channels, they're available at online resellers like StubHub. As expected -- considering they were the first to sell out -- single-day tickets for Sunday appear to the the most popular: They're going on StubHub for a minimum of $229 -- more than double the original price of $95.
