Beck Announces Surprise Show at Bimbo's This Thursday
Behold the riches of Outside Lands: If the existing spate of night shows weren't enough, maybe this will be: Beck -- yes, that Beck, of "Loser" and Sea Change and Modern Guilt -- is playing a surprise show at Bimbo's 365 Club this Thursday night! And it's just him -- no opener.
Beck at Outside Lands 2008
But you better move quickly if you want tickets.
They'll go onsale today at noon for the 18+ show, and come with the common restrictions for a big Bimbo's show: They're available via will call pickup only, and only two tickets will be allowed per order (also: non-transferable, no ins and outs, etc.). The show is 18+; doors are at 7:30, and the show proper starts at 9. Again, there's no opener -- this is a straight Evening with Beck in one of S.F.'s plushest venues -- so expect demand to be high.
You can get your tickets here at 12 p.m. today. Good luck!
Also: Beck just announced that his new album, Beck Hansen's Song Reader, will be released exclusively in the form of sheet music -- never before recorded -- with help from mischievous humor publisher McSweeney's. Really:
Complete with full-color, heyday-of-home-play-inspired art for each song and a lavishly produced hardcover carrying case (and, when necessary, ukelele notation), the Song Reader is an experiment in what an album can be at the end of 2012 -- an alternative that enlists the listener in the tone of every track, and that's as visually absorbing as a dozen gatefold LPs put together.
Well, okay. Beck Hansen's Song Reader features an introduction from Slate music critic Jody Rosen, as well as a foreword Mr. Hansen himself, and is due out this December.
