They Are Now Literally Giving Away Tickets to See Van Halen This Sunday [Updated]

Update, 6/1/12, 3:45 p.m.: A Live Nation representative called us to say that the below offer was meant to go to out only a select group of folks with ties to Oracle, and was inadvertently sent out to an email list larger than intended (which is where we heard about it). The two-for-one Van Halen ticket deal is not a public offer, and was not related to the strength of sales of the show. According to Live Nation, both the Van Halen shows in the Bay Area are nearly sold out. Sorry!

Even before putting together this week's feature on the band, we'd gotten the feeling that maybe Van Halen's cock-swinging, getting-tired-early reunion tour wasn't quite the hot ticket some thought it might be.

And either we're right about that, or the band and its, promoter Live Nation, are feeling especially generous: This morning Oracle Arena announced a buy one, get one free deal for some tickets to this Sunday's Van Halen show.

Yes, you heard that right: Buy one ticket to what was supposed to be one of the year's biggest reunion shows, and they'll just give you another one.

Granted, the tickets eligible for this offer were $79.50 to start, so Diamond Dave and Toothless Eddie still won't make for an actually cheap date. Effectively, the two-for-one deal is just cutting in half the standard ticket price.

But still! They're giving away a ticket to go see Van Halen! We don't see this often -- in fact, we don't remember seeing it with any other recent major show. But if Van Halen have to give away seats to see them, maybe that sheds some light on why the boys were so keen on canceling postponing a whole other leg of this summer's planned tour.
