Only days after slaying a sold-out Fox theater with stoner-metal legends Sleep, Oakland heavy music figurehead Matt Pike has had to pull current band High on Fire out of its slot at this summer's Rockstar Mayhem Festival as he prepares to enter rehab for alcohol addiction.
High on Fire has postponed all touring plans, the band announced in a statement today. It had been scheduled to perform during the Mayhem Festival's stop at Shoreline Amphitheatre July 1. Mayhem festival organizers say they'll find a replacement for High on Fire.
The band was scheduled to tour in support of its latest album, De Vermis Mysteriis, which came out April 1 and hit No. 14 on the Billboard 200 the week of its release.
"High on Fire would like to thank everyone involved with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival for the opportunity to be a part of this year's tour," the band said in a statement. "We regretfully will have to bow out as our friend and bandmate begins his recovery, but very much appreciate having been asked to be a part of this summer's festival run."
