Lil B Issues Classical Album, Wants You to Actually Pay For It

Having harangued the rap establishment to an extent that he could no longer be ignored or dismissed, Lil B is moving on to new territories. The next genre ripe for his ad-libbed, self-obsessed, endlessly positive brand of inquisition? Why, classical music, of course.

Last night the Berkeley-bred hip-hop misfit Tweeted, "THE BASEDGOD" HAS MADE HISTORY TODAY HE PRODUCED AND COMPOSED HIS WHOLE CLASSICAL MUSIC ALBUM! HISTORY!! "CHOICES AND FLOWERS" - Lil B." Yes, you read that right: He's calling it a "classical music album" (and making us wonder if B knows that an "album" isn't exactly a standard unit in classical music). But then, Choices and Flowers isn't a mixtape -- not just one more entry in Lil B's sprawling collection of free songs. Instead, it's an album in the old-fashioned sense: One of those things you have to pay for.

But how does Choices and Flowers sound? Check out "All My Life," below, which basically consists of B's tune-and-rhyme-challenged rapping (we say this affectionately), three notes on a piano, and a chorus around 1:50 where he bleats "All My Life" like a sheep halfway through its slaughter. We can't decide which is the better visual highlight: those shots of B at the piano, wearing triangle earrings and pastel vest, trying to pull a Billy Joel, or the part where he glares moodily at the camera, making no movement, for what feels like more than a minute. Call it B's emo moment -- his latest one, anyway:

Choices and Flowers is $9.99 on iTunes; choice song titles include "Save the Animals," "Happy to Live," "At the Zoo with Mom," and "Exhale With Love in Your Chest."

Finally, a word of advice to classical music diehards: Try to take all this with a sense of humor. Lil B means well.

All My Life is from the mixtape Rain in England from 2010, so that doesn't represent Choices and Flowers at all.

I was ready to pay for "I'm Gay" until he decided to give it away for free like 12 hours after he released it.  I hope this one stays up for longer.  ...I just wish he would release it on his own website -I would be happy if I could just bypass iTunes and take my music straight to winamp.
