Dear Primus fans, haven't you always wanted to grab a drink with Head Freak Les Claypool? Yes, of course you have. And now, thanks to Mr. Claypool's new hobby, that's tantalizingly easy to do.

According to a report in Sunday's Chronicle, the top-hatted Primus bassman himself is known to occasionally host weekend customers at the Claypool Cellars tasting room, which is crammed inside an old Southern Pacific railroad caboose stationed in a Sebastapol parking lot.

Yes, this means that like most maturing Bay Area rock stars, Claypool has "gotten into" wine. He started making fermented grape juice about four years ago -- "getting his hands dirty working in the cellar," apparently -- and then went all-in, starting Claypool Cellars with his wife, Chaney.

Right now Claypool has his name on three wines: Two Pinot Noirs, both called "Purple Pachyderm" (after the Primus song "Southbound Pachyderm"), and a Pinot Noir rosé bearing the name Pink Platypus. They range in price from $35 to $42 per bottle. But a tasting session at Claypool Cellars tasting room will only run you a tenner ("Fancy booze for semi-fancy folks" is the company's slogan) and, well, where else do you have a chance to be served wine and cheese by the frontman of Primus.
