Brodinski on the French Talent for Electro, His Bromance with Gesaffelstein, and the Highlight of Playing Holy Ship!

​At 24 years old, Parisan DJ and producer Louis Rogé, aka Brodinski, has already released a mix in the FabricLive series, performed on a three-day cruise in the tropics, and started his own label, Bromance. Discovering music while skateboarding with friends in high school, he quickly developed an obsession that led him to end up choosing music over school. That decision seems to have paid off, as his sound has made him a favorite of those who appreciate noisy techno and bass-heavy electro, putting his name alongside huge players in the electronic scene like hometown buddy Yuksek, Fool's Gold label owner A-Trak, and the late DJ Mehdi. He recently spoke with All Shook Down about the Holy Ship! cruise, his relationship with fellow Frenchman Gesaffelstein, and his new label. He will perform alongside Bromance partner Gesaffelstein and HARD founder Destructo this Friday at Mezzanine for the third stop on their Bromance tour.

The Dutch have a grip on house music, so what's up with the talent of the French for making fantastic electro?

[Laughs]. This is not something we can explain, except that it's a super good compliment and we are really happy to be part of this adventure.

You just played Holy Ship!, the three-day cruise full of electronic artists. How was it?

It was pretty amazing, pretty crazy, too! This adventure was definitely one of a kind, and I was so happy that I was part of this unique experience. It was so much fun and good times on a boat!

Was it as crazy and chaotic as everyone anticipated?

I was expecting something crazy, but this was just crazy in the best way possible. The organization was super great and the feeling was super good. I will admit that I am tired right now, but I definitely can't complain. The highlight of this for Gesaffelstein and I was to have the chance to play on the Pool Stage Friday and Sunday. Having Paris Social Club onboard was so much fun! The Fool's Gold Rap Party was pretty tight, too!

Tell us a little about your current Bromance concept.

Bromance is a label that I created with my manager Manu Barron, Gesaffelstein and Club Cheval's manager and the CEO of Paris Social Club. Gesaffelstein and I released the first EP on Bromance last November. It was a split EP with one track each. Since November, we've been touring all around the world together and everything is amazing, from Asia to Europe and now the U.S. It's such a great feeling and people are giving us so much love that we can't complain.

Did you and Gesaffelstein know each other well prior to this tour?

We've actually known each other for almost one year. Gesaffelstein released his Variations EP on Turbo and we became really good friends after that. I invited him to my residency at Social Club and since then we became super close friends.

Will you be looking for new artists on the Bromance label?

Of course! We are working on different things together on this label. Our manager is working with us on this one, too. The next EP will be released at the end of February.

Was there an overall sound you and Gesaffelstein were trying to achieve on the Bromance EP?

The Gesaffelstein track is called "Control Movement." It's a dark-vibe techno bomb, super old-school German vibe on this one. It's also a big club track, works really well on the dance floor. I decided to team up with Louisahhh!!!, a friend of ours from Los Angeles. It's family business. The track is called "Let the Beat Control Your Body," and it's an acid-inspired, big-build-up electro track.

What was your first reaction when listening to each other's tracks?

Actually, we helped each other finish the tracks. It's just such a good feeling to have the power to help each other while keeping everybody's own touch. We are really happy about it, and we can definitely promote each other's tracks super easily.

You also recently got to do a FabricLive release. What was that experience like?

It's just such an amazing feeling and such a big step for me. It's such a good experience, too. I love the fact that I was the third French artist to do it. I love this club and I was always a big fan of the compilation, and it's such an honor to be part of the family now!

Lastly, how did San Francisco get lucky to have a stop on your limited Bromance tour?

We love San Francisco. The crowd is always super good and Mezzanine is definitely a super good place to play. It's always a pleasure to return to The Bay.
