The Bay Brewed: A Beer Festival With Live Music From Weekend, Terry Malts, and More

You'll be able to get a lot closer to the SF band Weekend this Saturday...

There are at least two problems with most beer festivals: You don't get enough beer for what you pay, and you usually have to listen to crappy music while you drink it. Thankfully, our friends over at the Bay Bridged are trying hard to solve this problem with a festival this Saturday (Dec. 3) called the Bay Brewed.

With entries from Magnolia, Anchor, Drake's, Lagunitas and more, the Bay Brewed is a legit local beer event. And while entry isn't cheap -- $45 in advance, $55 at the door -- you get unlimited tastings while you're there. Unlimited tastings. Unlimited! Also, you get a mug.

But it's the music that really makes this special. Topping the bill is S.F. post-punk trio Weekend, which broke into national notoriety last year with its debut album, Sports -- 10 songs of noirish assault that lands somewhere between Joy Division and the Jesus and Mary Chain, yet still manages to stand on its own amid the surging tide of shoegaze revivalists.

Then there's Extra Classic, a new local reggae outfit whose tasteful rhythms we wrote about earlier this fall. Rounding out the bill is Terry Malts -- a power-pop trio whose releases on Slumberland records have a sprightly, joyous energy -- and Sleepy Sun, a swampy psych-blues band that exudes a vibe similar to '60s S.F. heroes like Quicksilver Messenger Service and Blue Cheer.

This is, all told, a large amount of quality local music to be drinking tasty beer to on a Saturday -- so consider yourself advised. The Bay Brewed goes down tomorrow, Dec. 3, at the Verdi Club, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
