Watch Kapowski's 'Section 8' Video: Old Age, Robot Rebellion, and Some Strange Iced Tea
It's hard out here for a robo-maid.
Kapowski is a newish four-piece indie pop band from Oakland that has no guitars and may (or may not) be named after a certain cheerleader from Saved By The Bell. But regardless of its high school sitcom loyalties, the band's new video for "Section 8" is a winner: In the Perez Brothers-directed clip -- an homage to Woody Allen's Sleeper -- a disgruntled robot servant goes a little cuckoo after finding that his grouchy master has passed away. The tuxedo'd bot suffers a breakdown himself that leads to broken dishes and vacuumed flowers, spoiling the eerie calm of the master's house on the way to a big ending.
The song "Section 8" is a spacious bit of keyboard pop, with singer/songwriter Jesse Rimler's melancholy whine drifting above a roiling drum beat and bloopy electric piano. It's a pleasing first single off the band's upcoming album, Boy Detective, which was recorded with Eli Crews (the producer behind tUnE-yArDs' w h o k i l l) and is set for release Feb 2.
