Watch: New Bay Area Band Waters Plays a Hushed "For the One" on Ocean Beach

Waters is the new project from Van Pierszalowski, the ex-frontman of a long-running Bay Area indie rock band called Port O'Brien that put out its last record in 2009. (Many of Port O'Brien's former members are off working on different projects -- Caleb Nichols, for instance, is leading Grand Lake.)
Pierszalowski formed a new project called Waters, which recently released a satisfying debut album, Out in the Light. Recorded with producer John Congleton (who's worked with Modest Mouse and the Walkmen among others), Out in the Light is basic, meat-and-potatoes indie rock: Searing distorted guitars and powerful hooks, all propelled by Pierszalowski's worried, high-pitched moan. The band isn't pioneering any new territory here, but it is doing a good thing well. After the jump, check out a new video featuring Pierszalowski performing an acoustic version of first single "For the One" on Ocean Beach in S.F., amid surfers, seagulls, and dogs. You can also download an MP3 of the original version of the song.

Waters is out at CMJ all next week, but it's heading back to S.F. to play the Rickshaw Stop with Male Bonding on Oct. 25.
