So, Tom Waits Is Apparently Releasing New Music Next Week

It's always a big deal when new stuff drops from the gravelly throat of Sonoma County-based rocker, bluesman, and enigma Tom Waits. And it looks like he may be about to release his first new music in seven years.

Yesterday, Waits' label sent out a very cryptic e-mail hinting that something interesting would be happening at his website next week:

There have been rumblings and rumors. New music from Tom Waits, you say? Come to TomWaits.com on Tuesday August 23rd, and Mr. Waits himself will set the record straight.

And today, Britain's NME looked around the Amazon website and found a pre-order page for a new Tom Waits single, "Bad as Me," which it says is also due out Aug. 23. Turns out the thunder-stealing page is still up:

The track, it says, is three minutes and ten seconds long. Here's the cover art in a bigger version:

Coincidence? We doubt it. The NME also mentions "rumors" that the single will also be the title track of Waits' forthcoming album. Either way, it looks like next week will see something new from the man.
