Most of the bands at OL ARE "flava ov tha minute", but at least they didn't PAY 200 COPS TO BUST THEIR FANS LIKE PHISH DID IN HAMPTON.

I think they could've done a better job with scheduling. They put so many bands back-to-back in the same time slot that have the same audience. They should've been more like Coachella - you put the 3 or 4 biggest names of the night ON THE SAME STAGE, regardless of genre. Chemical Bros and Kings of Leon shared a stage, therefore Arcade Fire and Deadmau5 should too.

Also, you forgot to mention local awesomes, THE STONE FOXES. Go see 'em. 

Is your concert reviewer a complete idiot?  Panning Phish and Muse while glorifying Girl Talk and MGMT.  Perhaps the review was written by a 12 year old.

I kinda of feel bad for all the attacks your review has unleashed. But you did ask for it by not doing your homework. I suggest you do the unthinkable and SEE them play, and then write an honest review. Perhaps you will then understand why you have provoked this reaction.

Interesting to read the spin on Phish's three hour allotment being a BAD thing too. Talk about respect.

I would just like to point out that many, many phish fans also appreciate the other bands performing at this festival with vigor and respect, so why should we have to put up with a non-ethical, ego-centric, wannabe who has nothing better to do than bash an act he's probably never seen live before? The mere fact that you put a bullet point in your article to stay away from a certain band, obviously reflects the awesomeness of their beings. So, Ian, You officially are the worst journalist I've ever reviewed. Wow, that actually depresses me to say that.

As a journalist, you probably respect or read this little publication called Rolling Stone. You know, the one that named Phish as themost important rock band of the90's.....

you dont know shit. go rage dubstep, while the rest of us enjoy and encourage real talent on stage. your article and personality seem to be as about an original as your favorite band probably is. 

Phish are musicians' musicians.  I'm sure most of the Outside Lands artists who aren't performing when Phish is on stage will be in the audience enjoying Phish's set...and taking notes on how to rock and engage an audience.    

Fellow Phish fans - it doesn't matter if somebody else doesn't like Phish.  We like them and enjoy them.  That's it.  See you at the show. 

and the best thing you can do for yourself and your pseudo-career is see Phish on Friday, you will actually gain some depth and become a better critic. Guarantee.

You, sir, are such a cliché and your review mediocre, at best. Encouraging your readers to miss the best show of the entire festival? I can appreciate those other bands, but the truth is that none will exhibit half the brilliance, beauty and mastery of Phish. But enjoying Phish does require certain level of intelligence and intellectual engagement, which you apparently lack.  But not all is lost; your review was enlightening in that SFWeekly is certainly not a trusting source and will be avoided.

Oh Ian Trey Anastasio is beloved by Arcade Fire you shoe gazing dink.  You have no hipster cred if you knew anything Trey loves indie bands How the hell do you have a job. But this is what you wanted to get more indie cred.  I hope the Jedi himself slaps you with all of his talent. Phish is trying to build a bridge between genres and you just blow it up

Psychodelics during the day? Have you been to a concert? Do your job and report who's playing and leave it at that.

Im a HUGE Phish fan and what I love about this article (other than the author doesn't understand the 1st thing about festivals) is that Phish fans never find the need to bash other bands.  Actually we love to see other live bands.  This guy should be fired. Bashing the headliner who do you think you are.  In 20 years we will check out the line up and see which bands still stand up to the test of time.

But the Phish fans here ... shhhh! In the 90s, when non-fans flooded shows just because it was a "scene" it was terrible. It became overcrowded, all those people stood around talking during shows and engaging in general douchery. And now it's not a scene! It's as "uncool" to go see Phish now as it was "cool" then. AND THAT'S F*ING SWEET!

Kudos to the author and to hipsters everywhere for making Phish shows better for all!

Well now my interest is piqued! This band, Phish, sounds like it would be quite an experience! I read in another article that the lead singer from Phish really likes MGMT- it would be sweet if they played together! Plus Phish has been together like, over 20 years so you know they have that certain IT. Thanks to Liam Sport for writing this article. PS- what is 'riding the rail and is it fun?

Nothing says original like making fun of a 28 year old, half forgotten jamband.  Way to stay hip though!  Maybe the extra bounce to your step after writing this will keep those Ryan Adam bangs out of your eyes long enough to see how epic of a fail this and your future career as an underwhelming internet blogger is.  Nice try though.  Maybe you should stick to finger painting or something a little more elementary.

That noodling you're talking about? That's actually four musicians listening to each other, responding to the energy on stage and in the crowd, exploring their own creative limits, and all the while just having way more fun than most bands could dream of. Listening, responding, exploring, and raging - we should only be so lucky to have a band like Phish around in our lifetime. Their intent is purely for our delight.
