Celebrate the New Tribe Called Quest Documentary, in S.F. Tonight
Beats, Rhymes, and Life -- the long-anticipated documentary about the seminal hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest -- opens in the Bay Area tomorrow. (Check out our review.)
You can celebrate this tonight at a party in San Francisco hosted by the film's director, Michael Rapaport, and a "surprise special guest." And while we don't know for sure who that special guest will be, we have a pretty good guess -- and we think it's a person very, very central to the story of A Tribe Called Quest ...
Our guess -- and this just a guess -- is that you'll see Tribe member (and major figure in the documentary) Phife Dawg in S.F. tonight. He's the lone member fully supporting the film, and he's been traveling around with Rapaport doing press for it.
But even if we're wrong about that, the party will feature DJ Platurn, DJ Sake One, and Cory "C.M.E." Randolph spinning soul, "with a tour down Linden Boulevard." The first 50 people in the door get a free movie poster. And there's no cover all night. The whole thing kicks off at 9 at the Eve Lounge in S.F.
