A B & the Sea's "In the Sunshine" Makes a Bid for Local Song of the Summer

Last summer, A B & the Sea covered Katy Perry's "California Gurls." This year, the S.F. indie outfit apparently decided to write its own summer jam. And thanks to production by local dance-pop maven Wallpaper, theirs manages to pair the crisp catchiness of a radio-ready single with the band's trademark multipart harmonies and beachy vibes. "In the Sunshine," it's called, and it just might be the local jam of the summer.

Indeed, who would've thought that a meaty disco beat -- like the one Ricky Reed gives us here -- would pair so well with an airy, upbeat jam about getting seduced by the big headlight in the sky? Oh, but it does.
The song's only available to stream on the band's Facebook page right now, but it's set for official release next Tuesday, along with a video. Till then, check it out here -- and ponder why you aren't hearing it on the radio. Katy Perry better watch out.
A B & the Sea plays Popscene June 30.
