tUnE-yArDs in Oakland
The guys behind local video website Yours Truly have been on a roll lately -- that's partly why they got a special shout-out in our Best Of 2011 issue, out today -- and their latest video continues to roll pretty hard. Regular readers have doubtless noticed our enthusiasm for a hard-to-classify musical project outta Oakland called tUnE-yArDs, and today, Yours Truly released its own love letter to the group: A video with tUnE-yArDs' Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner at New and Improved Recording in Oakland -- the very studio where tUnE-yArDs' masterpiece of an album, w h o k i l l, was recorded. The video has Garbus explaining in detail the thought process behind the title of the new album, then shows her and Brenner performing live, building layer upon layer of "You Yes You" into the song's memorable groove.
