Mistah Fab Has a New Mixtape: "The Grind Is a Terrible Thing to Waste, Pt. 2"

Right in time for, uh, Cinco De Mayo, Oakland rapper Mistah Fab and DJ Scream yesterday dropped a new mixtape: The Grind Is a Terrible Thing to Waste, Pt. 2, the follow up to 2009's Part 1. It's been a busy year for Fab so far, with the release in January of the very solid mixtape I Found My Backpack. But where Backpack focused on a more old-school approach -- thoughtful rhymes over crisp, basic beats -- The Grind Pt. 2 employs a more maximalist style.

Its beats are rolling, clattering affairs, laced with dramatic string sections and lazer-synth blasts. Lyrically, Fab's haughty swagger has returned in full force; on "Dear Fans," Fab even laments the fact that critics judge him by his lyrics. Actually, he seems to resent the facts that rap critics exist at all.

Take that as you will, but this another dense, 18-track listen from one of Oakland's strongest (and right now, most prolific) rappers.
