Grab a Song from Zach Rogue's Mellow New Project, Release the Sunbird

After making four albums with his Oakland indie-pop outfit Rogue Wave, chief singer and songwriter Zach Rogue needed a break. So, armed with a few scraps of songs and some acoustic guitars, Rogue headed to a studio in Bloomington, Ind. -- ostensibly to begin a new project, but without a clear vision for what exactly would happen.
The result is Release the Sunbird, a new record that Rogue will release July 26. The gentle acoustic-and-piano glide of "Always Like the Son" is our first taste -- hear it after the jump.
Rogue's voice sounds incredibly sweet here, almost (dare we say) Paul Simon-ish. This is a song for dreamy summer afternoons in the park, or mellow Sunday mornings. Which is to say, it's quiet and pretty, if not terribly exciting. Check it out:
