Carlos Santana Criticizes Georgia's New Immigration Law

santana-big-face.jpg
"Really, Georgia?"
Beware, people of states with drastic immigration laws: Santana is angry with you.

Days after Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed off on a new Arizona-style regulation, Carlos Santana brought the immigrant-friendly spirit of Bay Area liberalism to baseball's yearly Civil Rights Game. Saying he was representing immigrants, Santana -- who was born in the Mexican state of Jalisco -- issued a straight-up scold: "The people of Arizona, and the people of Atlanta, Georgia, you should be ashamed of yourselves," he said.

Via AP:

"This law is not correct. It's a cruel law, actually," Santana said in an impromptu news conference after the ceremony. "This is about fear. Stop shucking and jiving. People are afraid we're going to steal your job. No we aren't. You're not going to change sheets and clean toilets."

Added Santana: "This is the United States. This is the land of the free. If people want the immigration laws to keep passing, then everybody should get out and leave the American Indians here."

Similar to Arizona's controversial SB 1070, the Georgia law requires employers to check employees' immigration status and allows local police to check some suspects' immigration status.

Santana was born in Jalisco, and later moved with his family to Tijuana, then to San Francisco, where he graduated from Mission High School. He became a U.S. citizen in 1965.

This is what Carlos is talking about.....  In Arizona, an investigative report by NPRfound that ALEC significantly helped one of its clients, the Corrections Corporations of America (CCA), influence the state’s new immigration law. The CCA is a for-profit prison company whose “executives believe immigrant detention is their next big market,” and thought that a law which “could send hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants” to prison would “mean hundreds of millions of dollars in profits to private prison companies responsible for housing them.” As a dues-paying member of ALEC, the CCA was able to write, present and lobby Arizona policymakers for a draconian immigration bill at an ALEC-hosted conference. “Four months later, that model legislation became, almost word for word, Arizona’s immigration law,” and many of the bill’s cosponsors later received significant campaign contributions from the CCA.  ALEC also helped the CCA by pushing “truth in sentencing” laws that restrict parole eligibility for felons, and consequently increase the number of prisoners.

Mr. Santana's comments are clearly racist and not founded in justice or common sense. Would it be OK with him if we all just hop the fence instead of paying the $25 - $130 for a ticket to one of his concerts? I suppose it is OK to enforce the performance rights laws and illegal download laws that have made him wealthy, but not the laws that prevent the rest of us American taxpayers from the crushing burden of illegals who do not pay taxes, social security, medicare and illegally consume our educational and healthcare resources. Also, I put myself through college by cleaning toilets so WTF? I will not support Mr. Santana by purchasing or listening to his music ever again. If the radio is playing his song, I will change the channel.

The nerve of Santana.  Definitely ill advised to use this platform to effect change with his words while receiving a civil rights award for those who use their words and actions to effect change. The nerve of Santana.  Definitely ill advised to use this platform to effect change with his words while receiving a civil rights award for those who use their words and actions to effect change.

Why is this guy famous?  He's a guitar player with famous friends.  His most famous song is cover from 1967.  He had one album of new material ten years that written by others.

People will clean toilets if the wages aren't driven down by illegal labor.

In all sincerity I say nonsense to Mr. Santana.  I could point Mr. Santana to a specific  Indian Casino inder contruction in SC at which illegal alines have stolen jobs from citizens, like my brother in law, who could have, and in fact did, work at those jobs.  I could point Mr. Santan to my sister, who had illegal workers paint her house.  The acquired the job by undercutting  the cost of American painters.  Mr. Santata is living a a dream world, totally biased toward all things Hispanic.  Mr. Santana is the worst form of racist, a minority racist.  Minority racists are geenrally given a free pass to spout whatever racist garbage they want.

what is carlos santana talking about? the american indian analogy doesn't apply because we killed everyone before there were any "official" laws. now that the laws are properly in place, we can kick everyone out of the country with a clear conscience.

And the half that pass can't compete with the rest of the world (look at the visa need IN OUR COUNTRY) ! Yes it is sad that all over the world people want a life here along with the dreams that come with it! But I hate to tell you the poor and middle class here want it too! But not at slave wages and no benefits! It wrong to be flood with other countries poor and middle class that are used and use the system to destroy our people dream so they can take them for themselves? That is morally wrong! No matter how raciest you would like to paint it!  IT IS ALL COLORS OF AMERICAN NEED TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A DREAM HERE OVER ANY THIEF BE HE RICH BUSINESSMEN OR ILLEGAL IMMIGRATES!IMMIGRATES!

Please Carlos! Please call your congresspersons ask for E-Verify ON allLEGAL workers and a verifiable SSN CARDS FOR ALL LEGAL AMERICANS! PLEASE honorthe 1986 bill! Do not forget the millions of LEGAL people that have lost theirdreams! LEGAL Companies destroyed and LEGAL families that have had to startover! Being moral here is just one side of the story being told as you forgetthe LEGAL American citizens but not illegal immigrates! The LEGAL employer tothe LEGAL worker's child that has lost everything no dream left! That ALLILLEGAL Employer that used poor desperate people who are will to risk theirlives as well as their children life's just to get here no job even! While theycan get more money than they ever thought possible IN THEIR LIFE IN THERECOUNTRY plus free medical and add free education for their children it is worthanything to be here for them! I understand that, but fail to understand agovernment who does not stop this when schools are failing students at a 50%rate. But somehow it can force class sizes larger and afford to teach Spanishto teacher to teach children to speak and write English before they canpossible learn here in this country? As we are talking about cutting theeducation system! Budget cutting all things that help the poor, disable andretire people! Oh did I say anything about our failing infrastructure or thatour population is going to double in 20 to 30 years? Or that we now use 75% ofgoods produced, but in as little as 10 years our share will be about 50%? Doesthat sound like we really need to look for dreams? Maybe just trying to honoryour promises that you already have to the AMERICAN people first would be niceFIRST! Please!

Mr. Santana needs to get a life!  Illegal is illegal.  If he does not live on our borders then he obvioulsy does not know the horror the AMERICAN citizens are facing.  I agree we need some sort of reform to allow good, honest Mexicans to work in our country.  However, we live in different times than when he immigrated to our country!  It is no longer what it used to be and we need to protect our borders.  How I wish we could go back to earlier years!
