Watch S.F. Beatmaker Shlohmo Talk About Living and Creating in SOMA

The eyes of Shlohmo
Local video wizards Yours Truly recently dropped a cool new video of Shlohmo, the up-and-coming S.F. beatmaker born Henry Laufer, talking about living in the South of Market neighborhood. It's for a new Yours Truly series called the Neighborhood, which presumably will feature artists talking about the areas that inspire them. Laufer, an L.A. native, says he doesn't feel like he truly fits in anywhere, but finds it best here in Nor-Cal. The video labels the area where he lives as SOMA, although to us it looks more like the Inner Mission -- the area near 14th Street and Mission in which you'll find the Kink Armory and Public Works

But details, details. The important part is that Shlohmo digs S.F., and Shlohmo's new EP, Places, is highly digable as well. (Hear the title track here.) Shlohmo performs Tuesday, April 19 at Som Bar in what's sort of a double-whammy: the regular Tuesday night Change the Beat party, coupled with the Magical Properties tour featuring Daedelus and Tokimonsta

Here's the video:

Also worth noting: Audyssey, the audio company that is apparently sponsoring this Yours Truly series, is holding its free monthly party, the Neighborhood, at 111 Minna tonight. The lineup features Afghan Raiders and Bobby Peru; you can RSVP here.
