Okay, Kill Rock Stars
, we really, really hope this isn't some kind of April fool's stunt. You're going to break a lot of Bay Area hearts if it is. What are we talking about? A new little note on the KRS website
that says the first 200 people who preorder the new collaboration album from Thao Ngyuen
will get a personal phone call from the ladies thanking them for their purchase.
We don't think this is a stunt, but since it did show up on the Internet today, one can never be too sure. One thing we are sure of, however, is that this is an interesting way to drum up early sales and interest for an album. There's no way to know whether you're the 30th person to order the album or the 300th -- you'll just have to cough up the $10 (CD) or $15 (LP), cross your fingers, and stick that iPhone in the one tiny corner of your windowsill where it actually works.
There's no word on how long the call will be, or whether it will be both Thao and Mirah calling or just one of them (if it's the latter, can we make requests?) But in addition to a phone call, you early purchasers will also get an alternate mix, and unreleased MP3, and maybe the album early? That's what this would have us believe
Background: After touring together, locals Thao Nguyen of the Get Down Stay Down and force-of-nature songstress Mirah decided to make an album together. (Which is co-produced by Merrill Garbus of Tune-Yards!) It comes out for realsies on April 26. You can hear a song below. And if you want more personal contact with the ladies of the project, well, you know what you have to do.
