Thee Oh Sees at Eagle Tavern: This could be you tonight.
It's always a good day when we can post a new song from S.F. psych/garage titans Thee Oh Sees. "I Need Seed" is the first single from the upcoming Castlemania, due out June 14 on In the Red. In place of the usual howling feedback and noise romps, this new song sounds more like distressed, poppy folk. Which is to say: It's acoustic! Grab it free after the jump.

"I Need Seed" sounds like a stripped-down piece of the band's catalog distilled even further, with gritty strums bouncing along under singer John Dwyer's unhuman ruminations. "It don't feel to good to be/Death in the 21st century," he sings in an erie, whittled voice. Even sans roaring amps and feedback, the Oh Sees still summon champion weirdness.

A reminder: Thee Oh Sees perform tonight at the Eagle Tavern (with Ty Segall and the Sandwitches) for a KUSF benefit. On Thursday, the band headlines Cafe Du Nord in a very special show, reprising music from the days when Thee Oh Sees were The Ohsees or OCS. Says Dwyer:

It will NOT be a normal show. It [is] all material we ain't played in years. We are flying in Patrick Mullins [original drummer/instrumentalist from an earlier incarnation of the band] from Connecticut to play saw and electronics. It will be mellow although amplified.

Sounds like a show not to miss.
