Have you heard this rumor that San Francisco music people
have an obsession with garage-rock? We know, it's crazy.
San Francisco garage rock? Here in a town where nobody actually has a garage? Why would anyone think those two things go together?
We're not sure how they did it, but it seems the folks over at Scion actually found some garage-rock bands from San Francisco -- one called
Thee Oh Sees, and another called
Hunx and His Punx -- and put them in
a documentary about similar bands from all over the country, like the Black Lips, Jay Reatard (R.I.P.), and Vivian Girls. Now they're bringing this documentary to San Francisco for a free screening. But will anyone here in S.F. care?
If you're a fan of this rather foreign kind of music, you can check out the film, entitled
New Garage Explosion, Wednesday, April 27, at the
Embarcadero Center Cinema. The 7 p.m. screening is free, so even if you don't have a garage, or an apartment, or a practice space, or a pair of clean clothes, you can still go. There's even a Q&A afterwards with members of the Spits and the Dirtbombs -- which will be helpful, since no one in San Francisco really knows anything about garage rock.
