|Is Animal Collective laughing in the face of Mother Nature, or laughing at the fact that they'll now sell more tickets?|
Mother Nature, you are a saucy bitch. First, you offer us a sweet place like Big Sur's Henry Miller Library
to have shows. The place books a concert for the beloved weirdo band Animal Collective
, whose performance next week at Henry Miller was set to be an honor-thy-Earth outdoor music ritual like none other. Then, in March, when you're supposed to be sending spring along, you dump a bazillion tons of rain on Northern California, washing away all the roads that take us to the forest temple that is Big Sur. Northbound Highway 1 is now closed until late April, it's much harder to get to Henry Miller, and so several glorious shows (like next Monday's YACHT performance) have to be canceled.
But Animal Collective is too important to cancel. So instead of seeing the band in the forest next week, people are going to have to catch it indoors at a regular ol' music club in Santa Cruz. Letdown!
There is, however, an upside -- at least for those who didn't get tickets to Henry Miller: The larger Santa Cruz venue means more can come. Additional tickets are going on sale tomorrow. Did you have this in mind all along, Mother Nature, you saucy bitch?
She probably did. Anyway, Animal Collective's Thursday Henry Miller Library show has been moved to the Catalyst in Santa Cruz. It's a larger venue, so 650 more tickets are going onsale tomorrow at noon. (Original Henry Miller tickets will also be honored, of course.) This is the chance for those of you who couldn't get into either the Henry Miller or the Great American Music Hall show (which sold out in about three-quarters of a second) to actually witness an Animal Collective (and Sun Araw) concert in the general orbit of the Bay Area. It won't be outside in a lovely forest, but after Mother Nature's behavior this month, maybe she doesn't deserve the honor.
