Lil B Went to SXSW and Made This Video

When it comes to public opinion, Lil B is working to legitimize himself in 2011. He's doing things like cutting a single with 9th Wonder, Jean Grae, and Phonte. Or peforming at the MTVU Woodie awards. Or being one of XXL's Freshmen class for 2011. But I miss the not-so-distant days of his hastily assembled YouTube music vids, which usually involved one of his patented based freestyles. And, judging by his new video, Lil B isn't ready to give up on that side of his style just yet.
We're treated to all the usual Based God signifiers here: The constantly moving camera which shifts in and out of focus. He thinks he's Wayne Gretsky and Kristy Yamaguchi. He has anywhere between 30 and 100 girls on his dick. He think he looks like Bill Gates, but he's Macintoshin'. All the while, his University of Texas trucker hat serves as a reminder that he made this in Austin, Texas (presumably while at SXSW).
One thing Lil B doesn't get enough credit for is his ear for beats. I'm okay with the range of opinions on his lyrical technique. But his taste in production is impeccable, not to mention diverse. Sometimes it's a sparse, futuristic slapper. Other times it's some new-age ambient business. In this case, he does his thing over a sample-heavy, lightly Dirty South-influenced track that would be right at home on a Scarface album. So thanks, Based God.
