Lil B Finally Releases an Uncontroversially Good Single, 'Base To Your Face'

And now the plot thickens. Bay Area conversation piece Lil B The Based God has released a new single, "Base For Your Face," which isn't remotely surprising unto itself (although come to think of it, one does admire his relative restraint). A little more eyebrow-raising is its high-caliber guests, namely the esteemed lady rapper Jean Grae and North Carolina veteran Phonte, plus a great pseudo-Doomesque beat from 9th Wonder -- a long way from the Vans-rocking waterfront goons B's logged so much time with.

But the real story here is what Noz calls the "oh my god Lil B is actually good moment of clarity," which is easier to find here than it is in any #BASED track to come traipsing across your Google Reader in the last year. This is no "then I park my car, then I fuck your bitch" Dada-rap -- this is legit ("real complex rap," B calls it). There's even a mini-dis that makes everything else seem tame by comparison: "All they do is rhyme words," he says. "Such typical rappers."

Perhaps this was his plan all along.
