Not a real photo of Fiona, but oh, how we wish it was.
Remember the whole, "we should ban raves in California" thing we told you about in December? Basically Bay Area Assemblywoman Fiona Ma proposed banning raves outright on state-owned property as a partial solution to the problem of excessive drug use and drinking at the massive dance parties. (And the occasionally resulting injuries and deaths.) Her idea danced straight into a giant speaker tower of criticism, and Ma shelved it after a couple weeks, promising to do some research and come back later.

Well, guess what? Ma did some research. This past weekend, she actually went to a rave.

So how was the 45,000-person event Ma went to in San Bernardino? This quote pretty much sums it up:

"For me, this was more like research. So it wasn't fun per se. But I could see how people could have fun."

Wait, you went to a rave for a purpose besides having fun, Fiona? Uh, we think you didn't really go to a rave, then. Try again.

Ma did have some other interesting things to say, though -- she actually left impressed with the efforts of the event's organizers, even if she didn't exactly lose herself on the dance floor. Read the full story on our news blog, the Snitch.
