Better than:
Watching sweaty wannabes dance on the speakers.

Popscene's usual underage crowd got aggressive battling to the front of the crowd last night, snagging spots to block others' view of the Limousines with their iPhones at the club's new venue, Rickshaw Stop.

Armed with a megaphone, singer-songwriter Eric Victorino lead the sweaty audience in chanting choruses and hand claps, all in time with the seizure inducing strobe lights. Meanwhile, his partner Gio Giusti, tapped away ferociously at an iPad synth app. The three-piece, (yeah there's a drummer that doesn't seem to get much attention) was hugely enthusiastic, celebrating its recent signing to Dangerbird Records.

In theme with the celebration, confetti and dozens of colorful balloons dropped from the ceiling during the Limo's best-known song, "Internet Killed the Video Star." At this point seemingly the entire crowd threw its hands in the air, bouncing the balloons up and down like beach balls.

To an unfamiliar ear, this synth-pop outfit may come off as a one-hit wonder. But last night's show was packed with fans singing along to every track.

"Well, that's literally every song we have," said Victorino after finishing the hour-long set. The band even threw in a New Order cover, "Temptation," which was a hit with the resident new-wave-loving older crowd at Popscene.

The band didn't kill time during the set having forced conversations with the crowd. It was practically back-to-back songs, with a little break for Victorino to scream "Oh shit" back and forth with the audience -- what he called his "I'm havin a good time" catch phrase.

Crowd favorites included tracks "The Future," "Very Busy People," and "Get Sharp." With his blue-tinged, bleached hair and almost babyish voice,Victorino has a stage presence reminiscent of Davey Havok. He's backed by Gio on the talkbox, a la Chromeo's P-Thugg.

The Limousines' lyrics -- about refusal to grow up, sex, drugs, and videogames -- fit the boisterous audience well. The crowd was filled with a surprising amount of straight college-aged guys praising Victorino, reaching for a hand grab or some type of recognition.

There seemed to be few Limousines show virgins, considering the band plays San Francisco all the time. Though the electro-pop outlet isn't anything ridiculously special, its music is fun in a soundtrack-to-a-high-school-movie-about-your-life type of way.
